Expands domestic and international business based on ‘Haimdall’, an AI-powered carbon reduction measurement and verification solution.

Thanks Carbon, an AI climate-tech company, announced on the 2nd that it has been selected for the “2026 First Penguin” program, an innovative company growth support initiative by the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (Kodit). The selection was driven by its AI-powered carbon reduction measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) solution, “Haimdall.”

The First Penguin program is a support system by Kodit that evaluates the growth potential and technological capabilities of promising startups within their first seven years of operation, providing them with credit guarantees and customized growth programs. Selected companies receive up to 4 billion KRW in financial guarantees, alongside consulting services in law, tax, and management, as well as scale-up programs.

Thanks Carbon develops and operates Haimdall, a solution that digitalizes the MRV process for carbon reduction projects using satellite data and AI. Haimdall analyzes soil moisture conditions in agricultural fields using satellite data to calculate and verify greenhouse gas reductions. It stands out by digitalizing conventional verification methods that heavily rely on on-site inspections and manual record-keeping, thereby improving operational efficiency.

The company is currently applying Haimdall to Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) projects, a rice farming method that reduces methane emissions by drying paddy fields for specific periods. AWD is a representative greenhouse gas reduction method in agriculture where fields are temporarily drained during periods that do not affect rice growth, increasing oxygen supply to the soil and suppressing methane emissions.

Thanks Carbon has completed around ten pilot projects in areas including Haenam-gun in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, as well as Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bangladesh. The company reported achieving a data accuracy rate of 92% to 98% compared to manual records. Leveraging these results, it is conducting local farm pilots and feasibility studies to expand international carbon reduction projects based on AWD.

Supported by these initiatives, the company was also recently selected for the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency’s (KOTRA) international greenhouse gas reduction main feasibility support project, as well as the Korea Energy Agency’s international reduction investment support project.

Currently, Thanks Carbon is pushing forward an international reduction project in Cambodia involving Korea South-East Power and private financial institutions. The company has received the initial No Objection Letter (NOL) from the Cambodian government and aims to reduce approximately 120,000 tCO₂-eq of greenhouse gases annually across roughly 23,000 hectares of farmland.

Moving forward, we will advance the Haimdall technology and continue to expand our international reduction projects across overseas markets, including Southeast Asia.”
